Pediatric Occupational Therapy addresses individual performance components to improve a child’s independence in his/her daily occupations, which can include play skills, self-care activities, and educational activities.  Therapeutic intervention can address any or all of the following components: fine motor skills, visual motor skills, handwriting, core strength, bilateral coordination and sensory processing/integration.  Intervention is playful and child-directed.  We specialize in working with children with autism.

The Philosophy of Naturopathic Pediatrics is truly preventive. Our goal is to support the natural immunity-building processes in the body, and interfere as little as possible. Traditional Naturopaths work in collaboration with the traditional medical community as a complimentary provider engaging natural modalities for helping the body heal. “Tolle causum” naturopathic doctors are instructed in school — this is Latin for “Find the Cause”. Identifying and treating the underlying causes of illness is one of the guiding principles of Naturopathic Medicine.                       more info

Sensory Integration is the process by which our bodies take in information from the world around us and process the information resulting in a behavioral response.  Dysfunction in sensory integration occurs when the body is unable to process information accurately, whether it be auditory, visual, tactile, oral, olfactory, vestibular or proprioceptive information.

A child who is experiencing a dysfunction in sensory integration may present with any of the following symptoms:

  1. Sensitivity to clothing, messy play or specific textures

  2. Difficulty with sustained attention to activities - jumps from thing to thing

  3. Easily distracted

  4. Sensory seeking behaviors such as frequent or constant spinning, jumping, crashing, etc.

  5. Fear of movement or a strong preference for sedentary activities

  6. Clumsy, uncoordinated, unsure of where his/her body is in space
